Metroid: Other M Gameplay is Unreal

E-mail Print PDF

What I love about summer is not having to wear heavy winter jackets and not going to go to school for 2 months, but forget about that; Metroid Other M drops this summer. At first I was completely opposed to the fact that the new Metroid was not going to use the nun-chuck, which means that it wouldn't be another Metroid Prime game. After seeing this gameplay trailer, my interest in this game has grown significantly. What seemed to catch my eye was the incredibly fast side scrolling, which leaves me wonder if Other M will be on the shorter side. All questions aside, this is after all a new Metroid so I'm sure Nintendo will deliver the goods.

Nintendo 3DS Announced

Nintendo DS

Coming March 2011 to most likely Japan, Nintendo will be releasing the 3DS (don't worry, the name is temporary). The Nintendo 3DS will feature games with 3D effects and no need for glasses. There will also be full backwards compatibility with DS and DSi games, more details confirmed for this years E3. It seems that 3D is the new fad for 2010, since there has been a huge emphasis on 3D movies and video games. It seems odd that Nintendo would announce the 3DS so quickly after the launch of the DSi XL, but I do look forward to seeing what Nintendo is going to surprise us with this time.

Now Playing: Pokemon HeartGold

Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver

The last time I played a Pokemon game was back around 2001, when the version Pokemon Crystal was released in North America. Even though it's been a while since I played a Pokemon game, I felt the need to jump back into the series because of all the good things I heard from my friends. After getting passed the menu screen and the tutorials, I felt like I was back in a familiar place. It was easy to assimilate myself because it didn't seem foreign, and the cheerfulness of the people around you made it even easier.

Use of the touch screen has been integrated well, laying out all of your items, Pokemon and options for easy access. Pokemon HeartGold brings back a lot of memories about when I was younger, and that feeling of familiarity avoids the initial learning stage at the beginning of games. Having only played 2 hours, I looked forward to seeing what else the game has to offer. But what I do worry about is if that feeling of familiarity will get old too fast, too soon.

Monster Hunter Tri and Classic Controller bundle

 Wii Classic Controller

Many people like myself, only touch their Nintendo Wii for special occasions like a new Zelda, Mario, Metroid etc. It was announced today that North Americans will be receiving Monster Hinter Tri in April, which will be bundled with the Wii Classic Controller Pro for $59.99. If are not looking to buy the classic controller, then you can buy the game separately for $49.99. It isn't often that I get excited for a Wii title, but Monster Hunter Tri really looks to be a promising Wii title.

Muramasa: the Demon Blade

For those of you who don't know about Muramasa: the Demon Blade, here is a 2 minute clip of what you can expect from the game. Now this may not be everyones cup of tea, but if you're looking for a Wii title this is definitely worth a look. This game offers intuitive controls and unique graphics which are being described as a "moving painting". This game can be finished in about 12-14 hours and in the future I hope to pick this up, but with so many games in my library that still have to be played it looks like its going to be a while.
